  3. Work vs. Job • Work • Defined as activity directed towards a purpose that produces something of value • Can be PAID or UNPAID (a.k.a. volunteering) • Job • Is a paid position at a specific place or setting • Example: • Office • Factory • Farm • Mine

  4. Occupation vs. Career • Occupation • The name given to a group of similar tasks that a person performs for pay • All occupations carry out work • Career • Combination of all the occupations and jobs held throughout your work life • Some people have multiple careers or mixed careers

  5. Work Experience Education • Educational programs developed to help young people learn about and prepare for work • Career and Technical education • Work-Study • Job Shadow • Internship • Apprenticeships

  6. Benefits of Work Experience • Learn occupational skills • Employability skills • Establish a work record • Earn $$ while you learn • Discover career interests • Remain employed after high school
