GANG: • 1. a group or band: A gang of boys gathered around the winning pitcher. • 2. a group of youngsters or adolescents who associate closely, often exclusively, for social reasons, especially such a group engaging in delinquent behavior. • 3. a group of people with compatible tastes or mutual interests who gather together for social reasons: I'm throwing a party for the gang I bowl with. • 4. a group of persons working together; squad; shift: a gang of laborers. • . 5. a group of persons associated for some criminal or other antisocial purpose: a gang of thieves

  3. GANG MEMBERS • Who becomes a gang member? • Gang members are normally between 12-24 when they are recruited. • Approximately 10 percent are female. • People are often recruited in controlled / restrictive environments or through people they don’t know very well.

  4. Why do people join gangs? • To feel powerful • To have a social status • To feel safe • Friendship • Peer pressure • Attention/ acceptance

  5. Solving Gang Problems • The problems caused by gangs can be solved in many ways. What I propose is harsher punishments for gang members committing crimes then somebody who is not gang affiliated. Also I believe there should be more police departments with special gang units to crackdown on gang activities.

What if you are a victim of a crime? • As a victim of a crime as a citizen you are entitled to certain rights. • The right to be protected from the accused. • The right to be treated with fairness and with respect for the victim’s dignity and privacy. • The reasonable right to confer with the attorney for the Government in the case.http://www.ojp.usdoj.gov/ovc/rights/legislation.html LAWS

  9. Helpful Tips • Do not get involved in criminal/gang activities. • If you believe you are in trouble with a gang call the police. • Don’t hangout in gang controlled areas. • Be aware of local gangs and gang activities.
