The Local Church • A baptized believer is added by the Lord to His church (Acts 2:47) • A baptized believer joins himself to a local assembly of Christians (Acts 9:26; 18:27) • A local church is like a body or a family • A local church member should have a sense of indebtedness one toward another
The Local Church • Some Christians have their names in a directory but do not attend much • Some Christians attend but do not seek to be “joined” (like Paul) to a local church • Some Christians live near a local church but never attend
What Do I Owe These People? • Restore & correct them (Mt. 18:17) • Teach them (Acts 11:26; 13:1) • Grow with them (Acts 16:5) • Protect them (Acts 20:17,28) • Don’t cause them to stumble (1 Cor. 10:32) • Don’t despise them (1 Cor. 11:18-22) • Build them up (1 Cor. 14:12)
What Do I Owe These People? • Remain orderly with them (1 Cor. 14:33) • Support them (1 Cor. 16:1-2; 2 Cor. 8:1,24) • Persevere with them (2 Thess. 1:4) • Motivate them (Heb. 10:24-25)
