1. Rejuvenation of the Northeast Michigan SectionPaul Tindall for Sat Basu Region 4 Meeting January 27-28, 2007 Marriott Hotel, Chicago

2. Responsibilities • IEEE Region 4 Northeast Michigan Section has faced difficulties finding officers for the section • Section Chair Dr. James Stevenson requested release from his duties as Chair • Region 4 recognizes Dr. Stevenson’s efforts in essential revitalization of the Northeast Section in early 1990s and running the Section since then. Region 4 wishes him success in his new endeavors

3. Key Activities in 2006 • Region 4 2005-2006 Director Ron Jensen and Director-Elect Robert Dawson requested the new 2007-2008 Director-Elect Don Bramlett and Technical Activities Chair Sat Basu to initiate Rejuvenation work • During August 2006, Mr. Dawson requested IEEE Section Support Group to run an Opinion Survey for Northeast Michigan Section Members’ future operations. • The result of the survey revealed some interested volunteers to help the Section. It was decided to run an administrative meeting with the potential volunteers to initiate rejuvenation.

4. Rejuvenation Meeting • Technical Activities Chair Sat Basu called an information get-together and dinner meeting. The administrative meeting was attended by the following persons: • Don Bramlett, 2007-2008 Region 4 Director Elect • Sat Basu, Region 4 Technical Activities Chair • Subra Ganesan, R4 East Area Tech Act Coordinator • Travis Bussler, Member Northeast Michigan Section • Russel Clark, Member Northeast Michigan Section • Al Davis, Member Northeast Michigan Section • Cecil Hahn, Member Northeast Michigan Section • John Hansen, Member Northeast Michigan Section • Jonathan Leonard, Member Northeast Michigan Section, • Jarrod Miller, Member Northeast Michigan Section • Dean Norfleet, Member Northeast Michigan Section • Tomy Sebastian, Member Northeast Michigan Section • Terry Taebel, Member Northeast Michigan Section • Mike Wend, Associate Member NE Michigan Section

5. Support for New Officers • Don Bramlett gave a talk on IEEE Volunteerism, and distributed handouts He emphasized that IEEE is run by member-volunteers and the Northeast Michigan volunteers are the only people, who can help rejuvenating the Section. • Sat Basu outlined the IEEE procedure on Officers needed to administer a Section. A group of volunteer-Officers get together as necessary and decide on various Activities: • The Chair –volunteer coordinates such activities. • The Secretary-volunteer communicates with members on various events and records them • The Treasurer-volunteer uses IEEE funds to run the section and keeps expense records • The IEEE Section Support Group provides assistance to help the officers: • Creates e-message-groups and forwards the e-messages to members • Creates concentration banking accounts for the Section • Subra Ganesan discussed on forming Technical Chapters, on how to Form and Run them, as well as how to get financial and other support from IEEE and Region 4.

6. Northeast Michigan Section Volunteers • Al Davis offered to be a speaker and requested the first meeting date in January. • Russell Clark offered to initiate communication activity among members. He wanted a Membership List. • Tommy Sebastian offered to help develop Technical activity and Form Chapters, especially in Industry Application area. He also wanted a Membership List. • Jonathan Leonard offered to help in finance and accounting area. • John Hansen agreed to temporarily help in coordination work. • Cecil Hahn offered to maintain the Section Web-Site. Travis Bussler, Jarrod Miller, Dean Norfleet and Terry Taebel offered to help in Web development, Software and Networking areas. • Mike Wendt offered help; he is an associate member for over 30 years and wanted to be a regular member, if such provision exists.

7. Region 4 Support • Don Bramlett offered to have two members from the Northeast Michigan Section to attend the January Region 4 Meeting • Leadership and Project Management workshops can be provided for the Northeast Michigan Section if desired • Sat Basu stated that Region 4 financial help will be available for the initial technical meeting for the Section. • Subra Ganesan offered help on WebSite creation and other Technical Activities, including obtaining Speakers

8. Plan for 2007 • Possible Formation of Adhoc Committee for Northeast Michigan Section: • Section Chair => John Hansen • Section Secretary => Russell Clark • Section Treasurer => Jonathan Leonard • Technical Coordinator => Tommy Sebastian • Web-Site Coordinator => Cecil Hahn • Data-Base Coordinator => Jarrod Miller and Dean Norfleet • Networking Coordinator => Travis Bussler and Terry Taebel
