  2. .eu top Level Domain • The EC has decided to designate EURid as the registry for the .eu top level domain. • The decision follows a call for expressions of interest published last September. • Any individual who is resident within the EU, any undertaking having its registered office within the Community and any organisation established within the Community with have the right to register .eu domains • .eu is expected to be operational early next year • http://europa_eu_int/information_society/topics/telecoms/internet/eu_domain TERENA GA - CopenhagenOctober 23-24 2003

  3. .eu and EURid • EC in consultation with the Member States will establish public policy rules with regard to speculative and abusive registrations, intellectual property and other rights, issues of language and geographical concepts • EURid has commited to consult stakeholders from the European Internet Community and to ensure contacts with regional and international organisations involved in the Internet TERENA GA - CopenhagenOctober 23-24 2003

EURid • EURid is a non-profit organisation incorporated under Belgian law • http://www.eurid.org/ • There are three founder members • DNS Belgium (registry for .be) • Instituto di Informatica e Telematica (registry for .it) • Network Information Centre Sweden AB (registry for .se) • Associate members • ARNES (NREN and registry for .si) • There will be more associate members • EURid Policy Council TERENA GA - CopenhagenOctober 23-24 2003

  5. Potential Associate Members • Internet Users(European Coordination Council of ISOC Chapters ?) • Academic and Research Community (TERENA ?) • ISPs (EuroISPA ?) • Business Community (UNICE ?)   7. TEC will investigate the following possibilities for TERENA- becoming an associate member and having one representative in the Board of EURid and/or- becoming member of the Policy Council TERENA GA - CopenhagenOctober 23-24 2003
