What is Green Cleaning? • Green Cleaning is part of an initiative for Sustainable Practices by using environmentally responsible products. • Simply put, Green Cleaning is a method of cleaning that uses environmentally friendly products which are packaged in recyclable containers, reduces indoor air-pollution, minimizes waste, and has reduced health & safety risks.
Why Green Cleaning? • Health and Safety of our Staff and Customers • Environmental Stewardship • Waste stream Reduction • Improved Indoor Air Quality • It’s the right thing to do.

What Standard is Rose-Hulman Using? • Green Seal Environmental Standard for Cleaning Services (GS-42) • Green Seal Environmental Standard for General-Purpose, Bathroom, Glass, and Carpet-Cleaners (GS-37) • Green Seal Environmental Standard for Paper Towels and Paper Napkins (GS-09)
What Standard is Rose-Hulman Using? • Green Seal Environmental Standard for Floor Care Products: Finishes and Compatible Strippers (GS-40) • Green Seal Environmental Standard for Hand Cleaners and Hand Soaps (GS-41) • Green Seal Environmental Standard for Tissue Paper (GS-01)
What is Rose-Hulman currently doing? • We have implemented the use of Microfiber Cloths, Dust-Wands, and Dust Mops. • Microfiber reduces our usage of paper-products, thus reducing our waste stream. • Microfiber is reusable and is proving itself to be very durable.
What is Rose-Hulman currently doing? • We are in the process of eliminating all aerosol products. • We have eliminated “household” cleaning products such as bleach & vinegar. • We have began to reduce the number of products in Ready-To-Use bottles. • We have increased our use of Green Seal Certified Ready-To-Dispense Cleaners.
What buildings does this apply to? • All Academic and Administrative buildings maintained by Custodial Services (Facilities Operations) are being cleaned by the Green Seal standards.
What’s next at Rose-Hulman? • Introduce Microfiber Wet-Mopping • Staff Training and Education • Documented Standard Cleaning Procedures • Building Specific Green Cleaning Plans • Continued Reduction of Solid Waste • Increase Recyclable Output
