Heavenly Father Helps Us When We Pray Primary 3 (CTR-B): Lesson 19
A father & his married daughter lived on opposite sides of a very large mountain.
How could this father & daughter communicate without going to the other side of the mountain?
Why is it important for the father & daughter to communicate with each other? To show love, receive and give help, & share ideas What would happened if they did not communicate with each other? They would not feel close to each other & they could not help each other.
Why is it important to communicate with our Heavenly Father? • Thank Him • for our • blessings • Show faith • in Him • Ask and • receive help • & blessings • Increase our • love for Him
The Lord told Lehi to take his family onto the ship they had built. They loaded it with fruit, meat, honey & seeds for the promised land. Strong winds blew the ship toward the promised land.
With the help of the Liahona, Lehi steered the ship toward thepromised land.
The Liahona was a type of compass. It showed them which direction to travel - through the wilderness & where to steer the ship.
While at sea, some of Nephi’s brothers began to actwickedly. When Nephi told them to stop, they got angryand tied him up with ropes.
Because of their wickedness, the Liahona stopped working. They did not know which way to steer the ship. A terrible storm blew the ship backwards for many days.
The storm got worse, & the ship wasabout to sink. Laman & Lemuel knew that God had sent the storm. They were afraid they would drown.
Laman & Lemuel repented & untied Nephi. Even though his wrists & ankles had become swollen and sore from the ropes, Nephi had not complained.
Nephi prayed to Heavenly Father. Nephi then picked up the Liahona, & it worked again. • The wind stopped blowing & the sea became calm. • Nephi steered the ship to the promised land.
Question Time! • Why wouldn’t the Liahona work while Nephi was tied up? • Why didn’t he complain? • What can we learn from Nephi’s example? • What did Nephi do to save the ship from sinking in the storm? • What did Heavenly Father do to help Nephi?
What is Jesus doing in this picture? • Why did Jesus pray? • When Jesus was on Earth, he prayed often to Heavenly Father. • We can also pray to Heavenly Father when we need help, too.
There are lots of examples in the scriptures that show us the importance of prayer.
Daily Prayer What are some of the times you might pray? How important is daily prayer?
Why is it so important to pray each day?
What would you do? You hear your mother up in the night with your sick brother. You become separated from your family in a crowd. You are unhappy about your grades in school. Someone in your ward or branch is seriously ill.
Let’s list on the board what you might ask for and be thankful for in your prayers.
You should always express gratitude for blessings, asking for the Lord’s help throughout the day, and pray with your families whenever possible.
Each of us will take a turn saying one thing that we could either pray for or show gratitude for and place a toothpick across the top of this bottle. We will continue until the toothpicks fall.
Testimony Time I bear my testimony thatHeavenly Father loves us & wants to help us if we will pray for His help.
