  2. Purpose • There are always new ways to assist students with emotional and behavioral disorders to succeed • Provide various tips, strategies, resources, and other information beyond the books   • Different perspectives

  3. “Behavior” • Behavior • noun • 1 • a: the manner of conducting oneself • b: anything that an organism does involving action and response to stimulation • c: the response of an individual, group, or species to its environment What does it mean to you?

First: Know Yourself • Know what you will/not accept • Philosophy • Areas of strengths/improvements • BUILD A POSITIVE RAPPORT • Get parents, staff, and especially the student on your side Next: Know Your student • Interests/learning preferences • Triggers/purpose • Areas of strengths/improvements

  5. Rulesand Consequences • Rules/Consequences—posted, practiced, reviewed • Positive—Concise/Specific • Avoid loopholes and confrontations • Different approaches: • “Fit the Crime” • Individualized • Waiting/Cool Down • Love and Logicapproach

  6. Choices, Choices, Choices! • Students seek to have control • May become anxious • May display negative behavior • PREVENTION • Provide choices! • Constantly = more positive environment
