JUST IN TIME PRODUCTION(JIT) • JIT production was first pioneered by the Japanese to reduce stock levels in factories and hence reduce costs. It is a method of manufacturing products more quickly and in the exact quantities needed to meet customer demand. Production materials arrive ready for use exactly when they are needed. This means that manufacturing firms have less capital tied up in raw materials, carry less stock and therefore require less storage space. There are no stockpiles of finished goods waiting to be despatched companies who practice JITonly need to start production after they receive orders.
JIT • JIT requires good relationships between manufactures and suppliers. Suppliers have to be flexible and able to respond immediately to manufactures demands. Any delay will be costly and this may halt the production process. This in turn means that manufactures must plan carefully, have accurate estimates for each stage of the production and have efficient stock control systems
