  3. What is nomination? • Nomination is the record on the spine of the patient’s choice of Appliance Contractor, Community Pharmacy and Dispensing Doctor (if applicable). • Nomination is not the same as the preferred pharmacy printed on a script and should be explained to the patient by the pharmacy. • Patient nomination is not mandatory and is more suitable for some patients than others, however nominations recorded on the spine are shared to GP systems

  4. Pharmacies should explain nomination and patients will change their mind. GP practices may not issue a prescribing token so the pharmacy will need to have dispensing tokens available. Future dated scripts are only available at the pharmacy on the date of issue. Patients suitable for nomination are those with a current paper scripts that prints with a bar code. Practices are told to avoid sending split scripts - all drugs need to be compatible as repeats not issued are part of the message. Dispensers will no longer need to retain paper repeat dispensing scripts Electronic Prescribing Key Changes

  5. Prescription and dispensing tokens • Paper copies of electronic prescriptions are called tokens • Tokens will always need to be made available, if required, by the GP practice or the pharmacy • There are two types of token, known as prescription tokens and dispensing tokens

  6. Prescription tokens barcode standard text will be printed in the signature box to prevent the prescriber from hand signing it

  7. Dispensing tokens • barcode standard text will be printed in the signature box to prevent it from being hand signed
