Let’s talk. • We can ask “What’s your favourite _____?”, and get the answer “My favourite _______ is _______”. • E.g. What’s your favourite book?” • My favourite book is Harry Potter.” • Or we can ask “What kind of _____ do you like” • E.g. “What kind of books do you like?” • “I really like fantasy books.”
Genre • Words like fantasy, comic, mystery, rock, pop, jazz, comedies, soap operas, action and horror are called genres. • A genre is a style of book, movie, music, etc. • When we ask “What kind of book do you like?”, it is the same as “What is your favourite book genre?”
…but… • When we answer the question: Do you like music? • You can answer like this: • Yes I do. • Yes, I really like rock music.
So how do I get an ?? • If you want to get an A+, you need to say what you don’t like too. • So…”Do you like music?” • “I really like rock, but I don’t like jazz.”
What kind of …? • Do you like movies? • What kind of movies do you like? • What kind of movies do you like? • Yes, I do. • I really like comedies. • I really like comedies, but I don’t like action movies.
