Weird ideas that spark innovation 8 techniques: • Provoke unplesant emotions in others • Make yourself uncomfortable • Treat everything like a temporary condition • Ignore the experts • Think of something ridiculous and plan to do it • Hold a „sacred cow” workshop • Bring in some slow learners • Disband and re-form teams

  4. Innovation methods • Traditional innovation methods are based on „find a need and fill it” • Target users provide needs; manufacturer develops solutions • New methods are based on finding/encouraging and commercializing solutions developed by users themselves

Grading and recap • Grading: • Presentation –up to 28 points • Attendance –up to 2 points • Test –up to 70 points • Recap: • Innovation – trends and issues; breakthrough vs incremental; user-based • Academic entrepreneurship, commercialization and university-industry links • University spin-offs; licensing vs. spinning-off; pros and cons • Financing process, sources of capital, vanture capital funds • People in university spin-offs and NTBF’s • Agreements and term sheets (esp. VC) • Types of questions: • Case or business plan or SWOT analysis for an NTBF • Mini-essay on ex. university-industry links
