Project Overview Ivy Tech Corporate College and the School of Business have partnered to deliver an on-site cohort-based degree program at the University of Notre Dame for their employees. The university underwrites the cost of tuition, books and supplemental instruction for its staff. This project began in the summer of 2009.
Program History • ND Human Resources completed an employee assessment • Discovered the opportunity and desire for training and development • The program is designed to address the desire to have continuing education opportunities while also preparing for other jobs within the organization. It is an investment in the organization’s talent pool.
Program History • This program was a key initiative for Notre Dame for several reasons: • By reviewing demographics, ND HR knew a significant number of employees would be retiring in the next 5 -10 years. This program prepared internal candidates to fill those positions. • ND HR also knew that it was much easier for someone who is familiar with Notre Dame to transition to a new job within the organization versus seeking an external hire. • “Growing their own” phenomenon, employee retention strategy • Finally, it addressed the feedback ND HR received when the assessments were conducted.
Program Description • The Business Administration Program gives students the broad background they need for general administrative positions in a variety of business environments. It also provides an opportunity for specialization in the area of Management. • Corporate College, in partnership with the School of Business, offers service to the employer in the following ways – on site registration, book delivery to the work site, hands on advising , hiring of faculty and supplemental instruction/tutoring , and multiple recruiting sessions at the work site several times during the academic year.
Two Programs • Associates Degree of Applied Science in Business Administration (61 credit hours) • Technical Certificate after first year studies are complete (31 credit hours) • Unique Components • All degree classes conducted on-site at Notre Dame • All tuition, books & administrative fees paid by Notre Dame • Class time is “shared” between student/employee and Notre Dame

Positive effect of cohort membership. Students have supported one another and feel comfortable asking each other for help. Students function as a learning community due to the organization of the program but also because of the strong support from the University in being paid during class, supplying tutors and engagement from the administration.
