One must definitely ponder on the best way to learn photography using a DSLR - especially a beginner. Here are a few points to help you enhance your skills and pave the way towards being a great photographer.  Learn to hold your camera properly: It is imperative to hold the camera properly – this way, a better angle and a great picture can be captured.  Start taking pictures in RAWformat: Even though it takes a tad experience to do so, but taking pictures in this format helps your post- processing. With respect to editing and enhancing the picture – RAW Format will come in handy! Understand the exposure triangle: Remember the three main elements: ISO, Shutter Speed, and aperture. You are bound to get well-lit and aesthetic pictures. A wide aperture is best for portraits: A wide aperture ensures more light gets through the lens – and the portrait is well-lit and appealing to the eye.  A narrow aperture is best for landscapes: A narrow aperture works for landscapes, as most scenic pictures require extreme focus.

  2.  Be careful with the flash: For a newcomer, learning how to play with the flash is imperative. One does not want “too bright” or blurry images because of the strong light.  Learn to adjust white balance: The temperature of the picture is decided by the white balance – learn to balance the temperature, so the picture is not too “orange” or “blue”.  Learn to read the histogram: Learning how to interpret the graph on the LCD screen on your DSLR will take some time and patience. Not to worry! Learn how to read it – it shall help you in the future.  Play with perspective: understand the importance of different angles, learn how to play and utilize the different angles to your advantage. It is important to learn from your mistakes and all eyes should always be on focus. Try purchasing a tripod and be mesmerized with the sunrise and sunset.
