BELLWORK – ENTRY 6 TITLE: Imperialism Bellwork • 1. In your notebooks, answer the following question: • Overall, was the practice of imperialism positive or negative? Choose one side and give me at least two reasons to support your opinion. Use entry 5 in your notebook to help you answer this question. Please be prepared to share your responses.
Cartoon analysis rotations • 1. You and your group will have five minutes at each station to discuss the cartoon and answer the questions. If you finish up a minute or two early, please discuss the characters in the cartoon (this will help you later this class period). • 2. Each group member is responsible for recording their responses to turn in at the end of the class period. • 3. We will rotate clockwise.
A closer look • 1. Choose one cartoon to take a closer look at. • 2. As a group, answer the four analysis questions. (Please be sure to include who wrote what response – you all need to write something.) • 3. Finally, create a caption for the cartoon, or a quote for one of the characters in the cartoon. When complete, place your post-it on the class poster. You will share these, so be clever!
Ticket out the door • 1. Choose one of the characters/figures in any of the cartoons. Once you choose a character, write about them. Anything about them. Write a story, imagine how they feel, write about their possible experiences with imperialism. There is no right or wrong answer, you just need to write until the bell rings. Make sure your name is on your response and as you leave the classroom, please place your responses in the tray.
