  1. DRJean-Jacques Issermann Special Delegate of the President of the FIA Medical Commission

  2. CONSEQUENCES REFLECTIONS The annual reports

  3. Should the reports be: A “showcase” for our activity? A tool for reflections, corrections, and progress?

  4. Examination of the main headings

  5. What about taking certain international series into account for the annual report: Interest? Selection criteria?

  6. The chapter “negative facts” Pillory? Or constructive criticism?

  7. Can the training be perfected? What ways can be discovered or rediscovered for the moment?

  8. Concerning extrication, on the human level: The obligatory exercise is a test. It is neither training nor retraining. While overall the results are satisfactory, case by case this is not always satisfactory.

  9. Some reasons: Change of team members; (now regulated) The FIA chassis is underused The circuit is not used very often The training is limited to a single type of car The training is very schematic and not assessed.

  10. Some “remedies”: • Programmed training sessions(to be added to the questionnaire??) • Gatherings (already realised) for training and retraining (regional, international, zone …..) • Acquisition of a chassis (or a complete car) of a vehicle fitted with a LEAR type seat.

  11. Also At all race meetings, whatever their level, have the local chief medical officer organise extrication exercises for all the vehicle types entered.

  12. For rallies, the following is now given: For the organising personnel, training in road rescue For the participants, training in what to do and what not to do.

  13. Concerning extrication, on the technical level: For open cars Few or no problems For closed cars The problems are recurrent, never resolved Failure is notable

  14. Medical centres inspected since 2008: Overall, they are in conformity Hospitals: Will now be inspected every 5 years.

  15. Concerning the main international series Their medical cover must respect Appendix H, but not the recommendations for the FIA championships This is legal, but neither logical nor sufficient We must seek to achieve an alignment “as close as possible” by agreement between the GP for the series (when there is one), the chief medical officer and the organiser.

  16. Concerning accidents (2008 - 2009) Percentages of deaths, serious cases and non-serious cases practically unchanged On rallies, the safety of the spectators is still not fully guaranteed.

  17. Note for circuits: The two most serious accidents were caused by parts flying off another car There will always be things that it is impossible to predict.
