  1. The Credit Game How to excel At Pioneer High School

  2. Let’s just imagine that…. • Billy is behind in credits • Billy wants to catch up to his classmates • Billy desires to graduate

  3. How it works at Continuation Schools Student must show PPST to earn credit! Positive – attitude and output Productive – binder/product to show Seat –you are here Time – on time full period

  4. Something else to remember! • Every 12 hours = 1 credit • Absent = zero credit. Just like a paycheck! • Student must be productive, on time, positive attitude to earn the hour.

  5. Here’s where it gets fun!Just call it “One to One” • For every hour earned IN CLASS, Billy should perform one hour of work OUTSIDE of CLASS. • We refer to this as INSIDE CREDIT and OUTSIDE CREDIT. • This is how Billy catches up and earns accelerated credits.

  6. OUTSIDE CREDIT IS: • Provided and available from every teacher • Up to the student to pick up, complete and turn in • Optional BUT is the only way to catch up if the student in not current on credits • Cannot exceed INSIDE CREDIT earned per session.

  7. Examples of OUTSIDE CREDIT • Journal writes • Term papers or speeches • Volunteering • Cooking • Watch a video and write and essay • Job shadow • Packet work • Book review

  8. So….. • Billy will get outside work from the teacher • Billy will complete the work and return it to the teacher ASAP • Teacher will keep a record of Billy’s hours banked and… • Teacher will credit those total hours at the end of the session.

  9. For example… • Total hours INSIDE for session 1 =36 • 36 hours = 3 credits (12hrs = 1 credit) • Total available OUTSIDE session 1 = 36 • Maximum total hours session 1 = 72 hrs OR 6 credits.

  10. Think this through… • If Billy goes to school 5-6 periods/day and does outside credit for each of those classes, he can earn about 1 credit per day! • If Billy is absent a day, for any reason, he loses the ability to earn a credit, right? Right! Zippo! Zero, nada. • Billy must attend to earn the paycheck!

  11. This year at a glance: • Session 1 = 27 days = 2 ½ credits/max per class • Session 2 = 32 days = 3 credits • Session 3 = 30 days = 3 credits • Session 4 = 27 days = 2 ½ credits • Session 5 = 31 days = 3 credits • Session 6 = 33 days = 3 credits

  12. Parents/guardians/family members! • You can encourage our student to put in time outside of class • You can ask what their plan is for each class • You can ask for a progress report from the teachers • You can discuss with them what they are learning in each class

  13. QUESTIONS????? • Just ask a staff member – We are happy to clarify and know it can be confusing… • Ask for handouts from the teachers. • Let us know how we can help! • Ask your child, they should know.
