Political system • Canada is a federal parliamentary democracy and a constitutional monarchy. • Head of state is Queen Elizabeth II represented by Governor General of Canada (at present David Lloyd Johnston). • It is directed by the Cabinet, a committee of ministers of the Crown responsible to the elected House of Commons. • Parliament consists of House of Commons and Senate. • Head of government is Prime Minister of Canada (at present Stephen Harper).

  6. Geography • The longest river is Mackenzie River (1738 km). • Great Lakes: Superior, Michigan, Huron, Erie, and Ontario • Mountains: The Coast Mountains, Saint Elias Mountains, Canadian Rock • The highest peak is Mount Logan (5959 m). Obr. 3

Economy • Canada is the world's eleventh largest economy. • The Toronto Stock Exchange is the seventh largest exchange in the world. • Canada is a member of the OECD (Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development) and the G8. • Currency: Canadian dollar (CAD). • Export: natural gas, wheat, canola, zinc, uranium, gold, aluminum, steel, iron, coal. • Import: computers, electronics.
