Essential Question How can teaching social skills concepts and vocabulary through musical interventions and applications improve students ability to prevent and solve problems appropriately? How can students use music and music concepts to internalize vocabulary?
How can using a tempo and dynamic scale help to teach kids musical vocabulary and to use that vocabulary to help them monitor how they are using their voice and body?

How can musical vocabulary help kids identify how they are feeling emotionally and physically help them solve and avoid problems?
Emotions and Musical Terms • Agitato – presto and forte - angry • Placido – Largo and Piano - calm • Crescendo - < - gradually getting louder – building anger • Decrescendo - > - gradually getting softer – calming down • Sforzando – sfz – sudden intense onset of emotion
Will teaching students conducting skills help them identify the personal space in a piece of music? • Will teaching students about the personal space in music help them identify the different expectations for personal space in their life?
Conducting • Conducting is a leadership opportunity. It allows the students to use their power in a positive way. The conductor and the student are all a part of the team. They must respect each other’s roles in order to be successful. • Conducting helps students learn to respect the personal space of the music.
Will teaching students to understand and identify harmony and dissonance help them understand and monitor if their behavior is meeting expectations?
Harmony and Dissonance • In Music Circle, harmony is when pitches are in agreement. Dissonance is when the pitches conflict. • In the classroom, harmony is when behaviors are in agreement with expectations. Dissonance is when behaviors conflict with expectations.
How can you evaluate if the Music Circle is having a positive affect on students social and emotional growth?
