  2. Building Capacity of Close Reading“Focused Reading” Read pages 1 - 3 from the article “Implementing the Common Core State Standards: ‘A Primer on Close Reading of Text’ ”. What is the rationale for Close Reading? Annotate and take notes in your Journal

  3. 1. Turn and talk to your shoulder partner.2. Discuss your rationale for close reading.Share.

  6. VIDEO VIEWING Use the video viewing sheet to jot down

  11. Step -2 Reading with a Pen/Annotate the text Circle powerful words (important) or phrase ? ? Underline and put a ? on top of words or phrases and you do not understand Write important thoughts or question in the left margin. Write the main idea/gist of the paragraph in the right margin

  12. Step -3 • Talk with your partner and share your ideas

  13. Step -4 2nd Read Teacher re-reads and students listen and watch while the teacher reads and annotates
