TEAMWORK • Team of 11 players on field and substitutes. • All need to work with cooperation. • Each team member should equally contribute. • Team consists of batsmen, bowlers, all rounder, fielders, wicket keeper. • 1 captain, vice captain, wicket keeper. • Each player can affect the whole team.
DIVERSITY • Players belong to different states, cities. • Have different religion, culture, values. • Age, education, income, occupation ( in case before playing cricket), family. • Food habits, hobbies, ethics, beliefs.
MOTIVATION • Money- E.G. IPL, endorsements. • Power- captain, votes, say in selection. • Respect- from peers, countrymen. • Self Respect • Love for the game. • Satisfaction. • Patriotism- love for the country.
INDIVIDUAL BEHAVIOR • One player’s behavior can affect his game, team’s performance. • Behavioral aspects include cool headed, stressed out, nervousness, arguing. • Quarrels on field may be because of a person’s behavior.
TRAINING • Coach provides training. • Separate trainer/ coach for fielding, bowling, batting. • Training for stamina building, body building, strength, stress management, cricket skills, batting, bowling, fielding, etc.
CONFLICTS • There may be disagreements in decision making. • Conflict between coach and captain, coach and players, captain and players, umpire and players, etc. • Some conflicts have been reported in the media. E.G. Greg Chappel ( coach) and Saurav Ganguly ( captain).
GLOBALIZATION AND OB • Team plays within and outside the country. • Need to adapt to foreign conditions, pitches. • Team has coach from a foreign country.
LEADERSHIP • MS Dhoni is the captain ( leader) of the team. • - Under Dhoni's captaincy, India reached their highest test score of 726-9 (decl) during Sri Lanka's tour of India in 2009. Their 2-0 victory in the series took them to the number 1 ranking in Test cricket for the first time in history. RECRUITMENT AND SELECTION • New players selected from Ranji Trophy/ inter state tournaments. • Selection committee includes certain ex players and others. • They take decisions regarding recruitment and selection. • Selection is performance based. • Consent of coach, captain, senior players.
PERFORMANCE • Performance has to be good since high competition. • Too many players available for one position. • Judged on basis of average. • Batsmen- number of runs scored. • Bowler- number of wickets, runs conceded. • Consistency taken into account.
PAY SCALE, COMPENSATION, BENEFITS • High pay scale since the sport is very popular. • Too many sponsors. • Advertising budget very high. • BCCI richest cricket board in the world. • Players earn from endorsements. • Extra benefits and prizes given on winning special competitions like World Cup, etc.
STRESS MANAGEMENT • High pressure level. • Solution- listen to music, attend workshops, play games, yoga. • Important as players play in crucial situations.
POWER AND POLITICS • Latest scam of IPL. • Too much money in the game. • Politicians such as SharadPawar hold important positions in the office . • Some argue, more politics, less cricket. • Politics in selection of players.
