The need is great • Every day, more than 22,000 children under the age of 5 die — most from preventable causes such as malaria, diarrhea, measles, and pneumonia [UNICEF, 2010] • Hunger is linked to nearly one-third of all child deaths worldwide [UNICEF, 2010] • About 67 million of the world’s children of primary school age are not enrolled in school [UNESCO, 2011] • Some 1 billion children are severely deprived of at least one of the essential goods and services they require to survive and develop [UNICEF, 2009]

Jesus calls His followersto care for the widow, the orphan, and the sick • The Church can respond by: • Promoting Child Sponsorship as a way to answer God’s call to serve the poor • Advocating for and funding programs that transform communities and save lives • Caring for orphans and vulnerable children • Religion that God our Father accepts as pure and faultless is this: to look after orphans and widows in their distress . . . —James 1:27 (NIV)

Bring hope to one child in needthrough sponsorship • You’ll reflect God’s love by providing your child with access to: • Clean water, nutritious food, health care, education and spiritual nurture • Job training (for older children) and micro-enterprise development • Trained volunteers to look after the needs of children and help care for sick and dying parents
