How To Use Windows 10 Sandbox Microsoft launched an Insider Preview Build including the new Windows Sandbox feature. If you are Microsoft user you can download and start using it today. Just for the information purpose Windows Sandbox is available on Windows 10 Professional, Enterprise, and Education editions of Windows 10. It is not available on Home edition so if you are using a home edition of Windows 10 or some older operating system such as Windows 7 and Windows 8, upgrade your operating system today. Windows Sandbox is actually a virtual machine but works as an application in your system. It allows you to rapidly spin up a virtual clean operating system image from the current state of the computer so that you can test applications or files in a secure environment that is isolated from your main operating system. Whenever you shut the sandbox down, it clears everything that was being tested and nothing gets out from the sandbox to your original operating system.
How Can I Get Windows Sandbox? Currently, the sandbox is only available for the users who joined Windows insider program and put your computer on fast track updates. Do not try this on your main computer because fast track results in instability. Yet Microsoft did not launch any safe ways to use or test pre-launched applications so just try not to use your main computer for testing purpose. Once you have installed Insider build 18305 or higher of Windows in your computer. Then installing and starting Windows Sandbox is a simple process. To configure Sandbox you have to follow these steps. Enable Virtualization First of all, you have to enable virtualization in your system’s BIOS. Usually, it is enabled by default but you can check either its working or not just by starting task manager and go to the performance section and check if it says Virtualization Enabled. If it is not enabled, you have to enable it in your system’s BIOS settings before you continue. Turn On Nested Virtualization If you are already testing the Insider build of Windows in a virtual machine and you have to test Sandbox in that virtual machine VM, in this case, you have to turn on nested virtualization. For this you have to start up PowerShell in the version of Windows running inside the virtual machine and then run this command: Set-VMProcessor -VMName <VMName> -ExposeVirtualizationExtensions $true It allows your guest version of Windows in the virtual machine to open up the virtualization extensions so that Sandbox can use them. Enable the Windows Sandbox Feature Once you are sure that the virtualization is enabled, turning on the Windows Sandbox feature is quick. All you have to follow this sequence to enable Sandbox feature: Go to Control Panel and then click on the Programs from there you can Turn on Windows Features. In the Windows Features window, enable the Windows Sandbox from there and save the setting, the system will restart once the settings are saved. Turn Windows 10 Sandbox On After following all the previous steps you will be able to find Windows Sandbox icon on the Start Menu. When asked, allow permissions to have administrative privileges. You will see a copy of your current Windows.
The virtual operating system is dynamically created by the main Windows operating system, so Sandbox will always run the same version of Windows 10 that you are using in our system. How Can I Use Sandbox? If you have ever experienced a virtual machine before, then using the Sandbox feature will feel easy. You can also copy and paste files directly into the Sandbox like any other virtual machine. Once the important files are in the Sandbox, you can easily proceed as normal. If you have any executable file, you can install and run it in the Sandbox where it is safe to check doubtful applications. Most important that you should keep in mind is that, if you delete a file in Sandbox it is permanently deleted, so be sure what you want to delete and what you want to keep. When you are finished testing any application on Sandbox simply close it. By this, all the snapshot will be destroyed entirely. Not causing any change to the operating system. Whenever you will start Windows Sandbox you will get a clean slate to begin testing applications created by untrusted developers. The next feature update from Microsoft is going to be great if you are not using Windows 10 in your computer make your mind to buy Windows 10 and experience the power of the best operating system.
