Concepts of Outreach and Peer-to-Peer Networking • Learning communities where a group of people, who share common values and beliefs, actively learn together, support each other, and accumulate knowledge • System learning where what all knowledge/learning is stored & made readily available for anyone who needs it at the time it is needed MPCWIC: A member of the National Child Welfare Training & Technical Assistance Network, a service of the Children’s Bureau, U.S. Department of Health and Human Services

Content Shared via Outreach & P2P Networking • Expertise • Lessons learned from similar projects, e.g., change strategies that worked & did not work • Detailed guidance at key implementation points • Technical information • Policies and procedures that guide change • Emotional encouragement and support when change becomes difficult MPCWIC: A member of the National Child Welfare Training & Technical Assistance Network, a service of the Children’s Bureau, U.S. Department of Health and Human Services

Methods for Outreach and P2P Networking • Site visits • Technical support, e.g., help desk • Collaborative efforts, e.g., joint projects • Mentoring by states, tribes, and other T/TN experts • Shadowing or following an expert as they work • Specialty conferences for exchanging expertise • Learning communities or linking of likeminded individuals to address common concerns • Sharing of documents, e. g., training curricula, white papers, FAQs (frequently asked questions) MPCWIC: A member of the National Child Welfare Training & Technical Assistance Network, a service of the Children’s Bureau, U.S. Department of Health and Human Services

Tools for outreach and P2P Networking • Conference calls: regular phones or free via VOIP, Skype.com • Website or portal: collection of web pages with text, pictures, video, audio, animation, etc. • Collaborative tools: project management (Central Desktop/Basecamp), Google Apps, Survey Monkey, listservs • Video conferencing: 2 way video/audio, text chat, (Adobe Connect, Webex, etc.) Adobe Connect has 15 day free trial • Webinars: mostly one way video/audio broadcast • Discussion tools, e.g., blogs for personal experiences & reflection , topical threaded discussions (BBS) • Content management systems: wikis, databases, Drupal, • Procedural guidance: online readiness assessment tools MPCWIC: A member of the National Child Welfare Training & Technical Assistance Network, a service of the Children’s Bureau, U.S. Department of Health and Human Services

Outreach & Peer-to-Peer Networking Issues MPCWIC advisory Committee identified cost and sustainability over time as key issues. • ICs are working to get a handle on all the P2P networking resources available • ICs need to develop patterns of online and face-to-face P2P networking that are cost-effective and sustainable MPCWIC: A member of the National Child Welfare Training & Technical Assistance Network, a service of the Children’s Bureau, U.S. Department of Health and Human Services
