2. An Overview During 2012-13, the Pennsylvania Council on the Arts (PCA) will support a limited number of Teacher Artist Partnership (TAP) Projects and Long-Term Residency (LTR) Projects. The funding available for either of these projects emphasizes long-term, in-depth interaction between professional teaching artists and students through workshops and classes sponsored by schools, non-profit organizations and units of government. Projects should enable the participants to understand the art form involved and to develop their skills and creativity through that art form. Each project is locally designed and developed by the teaching artist, the project director and host site.

3. Timeline • Applications are due December 21, 2011 • A panel of arts in education professionals will review the applications and make recommendations in February • Recommendations will then be put in front of Council at the March meeting • PCA will notify applicants by the end of March

4. What is a Teacher Artist Partnership (TAP) ? TAP projects may take place in public or private non-profit schools, early childhood education institutions or specialized schools. A TAP project is different from a traditional 10-20 day artist residency in a number of ways including but not limited to the following: • It is longer in length (a minimum of 60 days or equivalent) • Both the artist and teacher teach lessons on an alternating schedule during the project period • Both the artist and teacher critique (“debrief”) the lesson following its completion either immediately after the lesson or before the end of the school day • The school/district must provide time for the teacher to be involved in the debriefing critique as well as a private location for such a conference

5. Continued… • The TAP team, which includes the artist, teacher, project director and school administrator, must attend the required summer TAP Institute training in Harrisburg. • In addition to the training, both the artist and teacher must agree to at least four staff development days including a pre-project day of training in the observational/debriefing structure, upfront time for detailed planning, a day during the project period for implementation assessment and evaluation, and an overall assessment/evaluation session at the conclusion of the project period. The team must also provide at least two in-service sessions for the host site faculty. • Evaluation of the TAP project will continue beyond the submission and approval of the final report to the PCA. TAP teams will be required to continue their evaluation into the subsequent year. • Both the artist and teacher will be observed by PCA staff/consultants/partners during the project period and will respond to questions about all aspects of the project at various times during the project period.

6. TAP Institute 2012 All TAP team members are required to attend the PCA sponsored training that will be held August 6 thru 10, 2012 in Harrisburg. At a minimum, TAP teams should include a project director, classroom teacher, the teaching artist and a school administrator. The TAP team members will learn the philosophy of the PCA TAP program, its components and the requirements for participation by schools/school districts. Act 48 credit is available through the PCA to school personnel.

7. What is a Long-Term Residency (LTR) ? LTR projects may take place in public or private non-profit schools, early childhood institutions, specialized schools, non-profit community organizations, public or government agencies or social institutions. A LTR project is different from a traditional 10-20 artist residency in a number of ways including, but not limited to, the following: • It is longer in length (a minimum of 60 days or equivalent) • The project director is required to do observations and documentation throughout the course of the project • Both the artist and teacher will be observed by PCA staff/consultants during the project period and will respond to questions about all aspects of the project at various times during the project period

TAP & LTR Application Page 3 • Project Summary • 100 words or less • Host Organization • The host site(s) must be in Pennsylvania • The host organization must be either a school/school district, a government or public agency or a non-profit, tax-exempt organization • The host must provide the participants • The host must ensure that there will be a contact/coordinator on-site • A classroom teacher and a school administrator from the host school must be able to attend the required PCA sponsored training (for TAPs only)

14. Project Narrative G1. ARTIST'S STATEMENT Using up to one page, briefly address the following: (a) Describe your work and development as an artist; (b) Why do you want to be a teaching artist in the program?; (c) Who are your target participants and what qualifies you to work with them? If you are a continuing artist(s) applying for a subsequent year of TAP/LTR funding, briefly address the following: (d) Describe how the residency has affected you and your work; (e) Describe your own professional growth as an artist in the last year. G2. PROJECT DESCRIPTION Using up to two pages, briefly address the following: (a) What do you hope to accomplish with your project/residency? What Skills/knowledge will participants gain?; (b) Briefly describe a typical session; (c) Briefly describe what activities will occur during a sample week; How will the project use the existing resources of the sponsor and the community?; If you plan to use Visiting Artist(s), describe their involvement, including the names of the artist(s). If you plan to include a field trip(s) in the schedule please be sure to explain the connection and rationale. If you are a continuing artist: (d) Describe the effects your project/residency has had on your participants; (e) How will the project build on the previous year's experiences?; (f) What changes have been or will be made?; (g) Will the project serve the same people and/or take place at the same sites? G3. SPONSOR ORGANIZATION/HOST STATEMENT Must be written by the sponsor organization and host site, if different or separate. (A letter of support from the sponsor confirming the match and their commitment to participate must accompany the application as well). (g) Describe the facilities in which the project/residency activities will take place; (h) Describe your reasons for selecting this artist(s) to work with. (j) Describe you reasons for selecting the proposed project director. What are his/her qualifications to direct this type of work.(k) Describe the reasons for selecting the proposed teacher.
