Project streams Business-training provider partnership projectsinvolve a demonstrable relationship with one or more businesses and/or employers who have engaged the services of the RTO to embed e-learning solutions in that workplace or business. Empowering learners projects target the needs of individuals in the community or existingand future learners of the RTO through stimulating demand, providing greater choice, responding to the needs of disadvantaged learners and through facilitating increased RPL (recognition of prior learning).

Business-training provider partnership priorities • Provide industry with greater flexibility to support apprentices and/or trainees • Assist existing workers to up skill and gain formal qualifications within an industry area or NSW Workplace • Are client focused and assist businesses to extend their workforce capability by mapping work processes to a VET qualification • Improve language, literacy and numeracy in NSW workplaces • Support emerging NSW industries, niche markets and/or green skills • Address existing and emerging skill shortages within an industry area or NSW Workplace • Applications employing leading edge technologies are encouraged.

Empowering learners priorities • Address barriers impeding equity groups, disengaged learners or mature age learners from completing and moving to higher level qualifications. • Support young people to complete VET qualifications • Improve access and equity for a targeted group of learners • Address existing and emerging skill shortages

NSW E-Learning Innovations Projects • support a VET qualification, skills set, and/or accredited program • Strong partnership with industry or community organisation (business-provider partnerships) • be based on a clearly identified issue or need with a compelling business case for e-learning • show how they are building on past practice and contributing to the national VET e-learning infrastructure.

Meet the Selection Criteria • Concise overview of the project • Compelling need and strong business case • Genuine commitment and involvement of business partners • Encourages greater industry engagement with the VET sector • Clear description of employee/learner cohort being targeted and understanding of needs of learners. • Educationally sound e-learning approach including descriptions of strategies and tools being employed. • Appropriate review and evaluation strategies within project period • Implementation plan with budget, project timeline & milestones, team members & roles

  10. NSW E-Learning Innovations Projects • RTO’s or RTO lead partnerships can apply for funding ranging from $10,000 to $50,000 • Projects run for 8 months 1 Nov 2010 - 31 April 2011 • Submissions close for 22 Sept (SI) & 28 Sept (AFLF) 2010

Sydney Institute Process • Submission must have support by college/cluster mgmt get them onboard in the planning phase • Submissions must align with the business directions & priorities of the Institute • Projects needs to have a signed agreement of support from your partner • All project submissions are reviewed by an internal committee prior to being signed off by the institute director and submitted to the AFLF Note: Date for review committee is COB Friday 22 September 2010

Market Segments • Vocational - delivering foundation and vocational skills to job seekers and career changers • Enterprise - up-skilling existing workers and delivering workforce development solutions to enterprises • Tertiary - delivering higher level skills for individuals seeking fast track employment or higher education

Ask yourself this • What is your need? and how will E-Learning address it? • Who are your learners how will they benefit • Identify which stream suits your context • How does your project support the strategic priorities of the Framework & Sydney Institute • Is you project building on what is already in place • Has another team already done what you are planning? • Who could you partner with? • Think about a team, project manager, facilitator etc.

  15. Successful Projects in 2010 In 2010 approx 137 submissions across the NSW VET sector of which 33 projects were funded TAFE NSW Sydney Institute submitted 7 proposals, 3 were funded

Sustainability Analysis of Building Information Models • develop and implement a series of online tutorials for learners enrolled in the Advanced Diploma of Sustainable Design in the use of BIM CAD software and the development of Revit projects for integration into Ecotect. • St George • Lou Martini, Architectural Technology
