Position of the management • Eurostat Management Directors meeting (12/2/2008): “As from 1 July 2008, eDAMIS compulsory for all regular transmission of data” • European Statistical System - SPC (14/2/2008) re-affirmed its support to the Single Entry Point strategy. What is eDAMIS ? eDAMIS is an environment which : • Implements the concept of the Single Entry Point (SEP) • Usage is simple (no installation on the user PC) • Provides adapted solutions to several needs and users profiles (NSI and other organisations) • Facilitates fully automated data transmissions • Guaranties secure transmissions • Maintains a high level of availability of services (checks every 10-30 minutes the availability of the services) • Offers value added services such as: traffic monitoring, acknowledgements, reminders … Eurostat Unit B3 – Statistical Information Technologies Data transmission tools and services 15/05/2008

Facts and figures • eDAMIS (eWA) is used today by all NSI’s • In 2004, the coverage of the SEP was around 20% (remaining 80% being mainly personal emails) • In 2007, SEP coverage reaches 40% • Higher usage for NSI’s (close to 100% of coverage for some of them) • Targeting 100% of coverage for all regular transmissions from all data providers Eurostat Unit B3 – Statistical Information Technologies Data transmission tools and services 15/05/2008

  5. eDAMIS and Confidentiality • eDAMIS always provides a secure (encrypted) data transmission channel in transit (on Internet) • For confidential data, eDAMIS uses a public key for providing a second level of encryption which guaranties that data is delivered encrypted in the Eurostat secure environment (and decrypted there with a private key) • In all cases, encryption is transparent for the data senders Eurostat Unit B3 – Statistical Information Technologies Data transmission tools and services 15/05/2008

How to become eDAMIS User ? • All users: use their CIRCA user-id and password • Eurostat users are all eDAMIS users (by default: Guest) • Users in NSI: should contact their Local Coordinator to use eDAMIS Web Application (see last slide) • Users from “small data providers” should self register in eDAMIS: • Go to eDAMIS Web Portal at: https://webgate.ec.europa.eu/edamis • Link: “Self registration (I have no CIRCA User-ID)” Eurostat Unit B3 – Statistical Information Technologies Data transmission tools and services 15/05/2008
