Lesson Purpose • The purpose of this period of instruction is to introduce you to the M19A2 Rifle and the care and cleaning of this service rifle.
M16A2 Service Rifle • A 5.56 mm, magazine fed, gas operated, air cooled, shoulder-fired weapon that can be fired either in automatic three-round bursts or semi-automatic single shots as determined by the position of the selector lever.

Safety Features • Before you can disassemble the rifle, you must ensure that the weapon is on safe. • Place selector lever to safe. • Remove Magazine
IMPORTANT:The Rifle is CLEAR and SAFE, ONLY when: • THERE IS NO ROUND IN THE CHAMBER. • THE MAGAZINE IS OUT. • THE BOLD CARRIER IS LOCKED TO THE REAR. • THE SELECTOR LEVEL IS IN THE SAFE POSITION

UPPER RECEIVER GROUP • Consists of: • Front Sight Assembly, flash Suppressor. • Rear sight drum (elevation knob, windage knob). • Ejection Port. • Upper Sling Swivel. • Hand guards.
UPPER RECEIVER GROUP CONT. • Carrying Handle. • Bayonet stud. • Forward assist. • Barrel. • Slip rings.
BOLT CARRIER GROUP • Consist of: • Firing pin • Bolt carrier • Firing pin retainer pin • Cam pin • Bolt • Extractor • Extractor Retainer Pin
NOTE: • Never move the brush back and forth inside the bore. • Do not attempt to remove and discoloration caused by heat. • Cleaning Lubricant Protectant (CLP) is the only lubricant authorized to be used on the M16A2.
