  2. Lesson Purpose • The purpose of this period of instruction is to introduce you to the M19A2 Rifle and the care and cleaning of this service rifle.

  3. M16A2 Service Rifle • A 5.56 mm, magazine fed, gas operated, air cooled, shoulder-fired weapon that can be fired either in automatic three-round bursts or semi-automatic single shots as determined by the position of the selector lever.

  8. Safety Features • Before you can disassemble the rifle, you must ensure that the weapon is on safe. • Place selector lever to safe. • Remove Magazine

  9. IMPORTANT:The Rifle is CLEAR and SAFE, ONLY when: • THERE IS NO ROUND IN THE CHAMBER. • THE MAGAZINE IS OUT. • THE BOLD CARRIER IS LOCKED TO THE REAR. • THE SELECTOR LEVEL IS IN THE SAFE POSITION

  12. Remove Charging Handle and Bolt carrier group

  13. Disassembly of the bolt carrier group.

  14. Press out firing pin, retaining pin

  15. Remove firing pin

  16. Rotate bolt to expose bolt cam pin

  17. Remove bolt cam pin

  18. Remove Bolt

  19. Remove Extractor pin Remove Extractor and Extractor spring

  20. Remove Buffer assembly

  25. UPPER RECEIVER GROUP • Consists of: • Front Sight Assembly, flash Suppressor. • Rear sight drum (elevation knob, windage knob). • Ejection Port. • Upper Sling Swivel. • Hand guards.

  29. NOTE: • Never move the brush back and forth inside the bore. • Do not attempt to remove and discoloration caused by heat. • Cleaning Lubricant Protectant (CLP) is the only lubricant authorized to be used on the M16A2.

  37. CONDITION 2 • Does not apply to the M16A2 Service Rifle.
