Welcome home Indy! Dear Mummy Dolly & Vivid Daydream family, It’s now almost two weeks since I’ve been in my new home and what an exciting time I’ve been having! There have been so many new sights, smells and sounds to discover and play with…sometimes I just don’t know what to explore next! Leaving my Vivid Daydream family was very strange…I had seen Mummy Sarah a few times before but she smelled different to my other humans and I was a bit scared a first. We had to drive a long way in the car and I cried for a while because I wasn’t sure where I was going and where my brothers and sisters were. I eventually fell asleep and when I woke up, my new human was lifting me out onto the grass to have a wee and feeding me some tasty treats, so I started to feel a bit better. .
The next thing I know, I was in a new house and being introduced to something called a ‘bench’ which was full of exciting treats and toys. Naturally I had a good sniff around then took a long drink of water before heading outside to explore the garden. I quickly discovered loads of fun things to play with including plants and leaves. When I’ve got a lot of excess energy I like to see how fast I can run round the whole garden and Mummy Sarah really laughs at me. I like to hoard little leaves and pebbles and take them to my secret hiding place under the picnic table. It’s a fun game when Mummy Sarah pretends she’s going to come and get them from me and we chase eachother around…of course, I’m always faster!
From the garden you can see lots of other humans and dogs walking past and I love to watch them. There’s also a canal and I got quite a shock one morning when some big white animals came swimming past….’swans’ I think they are called. Mummy Sarah didn’t seem bothered by them, but I wasn’t sure what to make of them and kept watching them through the fence. When the big one started making a hissing noise at me, I ran behind Mummy Sarah’s legs! I’ve gotten used to them now and anyway, I’ll be bigger than them soon…
The first night in my new home was quite frightening. I had to sleep in a small bench upstairs and didn’t like being locked in. I got used to it after a few days though and now I’m sleeping in my big bench downstairs. Mummy Sarah comes down to take me out in the night so I never have to worry about going to the toilet. I feel like a very grown up dog now…After a few days I started to feel a bit more relaxed, especially with the other humans who came to visit me. My new human plays with me a lot and has even taught me how to ‘sit’ and ‘wait’, although that one’s a bit tough, especially when I have to wait before getting my dinner!
Of course, it isn’t all plain sailing. I had to get used to this silly thing called a ‘riem’ and learn that I couldn’t chew everything around the house. I mean come on, these humans are just no fun sometimes! Plus I hate being wiped down when I’m wet or dirty, there’s just to many other exciting things I’d rather be doing… I’ve already been to lots of places to see and experience new things including the beach. Mummy Sarah says that this will be one of my favourite places when I’m older and I definitely liked the smells although it was SO windy, I thought my ears might blow away!. We’ve also been to a local farm and I met lots of different animals I’d never laid eyes on before including chickens, horses, goats, deer, rabbits and cats. Some of them make very strange noises…
Last week we went to the ‘dierenarts’ where I had to stand on a big table and the vet lady touched me all over. It didn’t really bother me at all and I was very relaxed…I also got lots of attention and strokes from all the nice humans that worked there, everyone certainly seems to think I’m very handsome! On Saturday Mummy Sarah and I went to our first ‘puppy party’ class which was quite an experience. The first half was a bit boring because I had to lay on the floor and wait patiently while the humans talked about ‘verzorging’. Afterwards though we got to go out in a field and learn some new things. I had to run towards Mummy Sarah when she called me, which was easy and then I had to run through a tunnel which was a bit harder. I’d never seen anything like that before, but when I saw Mummy Sarah peering through the other end I felt a bit braver and I got a big reward when I finally ran through.
Despite having lots of doggy toys, my favourite things to play with are flower pots! I found a stack of them in the garden and I just love biting them and chasing them around. Mummy Sarah took some funny photos of me playing with my favourite pot – it kept getting stuck on my nose! On Friday my new human Daddy is coming home and I’m going with Mummy Sarah to the airport to meet him. I hope he’s nice…I already like the smell of his klompen, so I’m sure we’ll be friends.
Hope all my brothers and sisters are enjoying life with their new ‘baasjes’ as much as me. Am sending a big lick for my Mummies Dolly and Daisy and to the rest to the Vivid Daydream gang. Will write again soon and let you know how I’m getting on. Heel veel liefs, Indy xxx
