  5. 1974 • - REGARDING NEW BUILDINGS OR MAJOR RENOVATIONS: • Regulated and controlled by the mandatory regulations of Catalonia: Technical Code – DB-SUA and Accessibility Code of the Generalitat. These documents regulate the technical aspect: finishing materials and space dimensions. • REGARDING MINOR RENOVATIONS: • Whenever it is possible, it is always to meet the requirements regarding new buildings. If it is not possible to follow the existing accessibility norms, the law says that, in any case, renovations should lead to improved access. • Example: Placement of a platform or ramp to save staircases of the typical buildings of the 70s – 80s to reach the elevator. It is essential to place a platform (ramp) though ti decreases the minimum required width of the staircase. • These regulations are applied to the public buildings, too. In each specific case, it is coordinated by the Accessibility department of the City Council. This department controls the accessibility aspect according to the protocols developed together with disability related organizations, f.e ONCE, TALLER BAIX CAMP....
