  2. Today’s Brownbag • What is AICHE? • What are the advantages of being an AICHE member? • What does the Lafayette student chapter do? • Slides will be available on Lafayette chapter AICHE sites (sites.lafayette.edu/aiche)

  3. Professional Organizations • All engineering disciplines have their own professional organization. • Each has a student chapter on Lafayette’s campus • Regardless of discipline, great resource for engineers of all types and of all ages.

  4. AICHE • American Institute of Chemical Engineers • Approximately 40,000 members in 90 countries. • Members from academia and industry. • Resources available for all chemical engineers. • http://www.aiche.org

  5. Membership in AICHE • Being in ChE in Lafayette makes you an automatic member in the student chapter. • From industrial donations, membership in the national chapter is free for all ChE undergrads. • Apply at (form is one page): http://www.aiche.org/community/students/student-membership

  6. What Does Membership Get You? • Scholarship opportunities • Additional outlets for your future • Internships (CareerEngineer) • Information about graduate school • Job postings (Note: Aimed at all chemical engineers) • Online mentorship program

  7. Intellectual Development: Webinars • Over the past few years, AIChEhas begun to develop a library of webinars for a wide range of topics. (http://www.aiche.org/resources/chemeondemand) • Student and Young Professional Development • Chemical Engineering Practice • Sustainability & Environment • As students, you get unlimited access to virtually all of them. (Professors do not.)

  11. What AICHE Does AIChE atLafayette Integrating Underclassmen Social Professional Development Outreach The Lafayette chapter of AIChE was the recipient of the 2014 Hoff Award for Academic Group of the Year.

What AICHE Does AIChE atLafayette Integrating Underclassmen Social Professional Development Outreach Professional development focuses on (1) making students aware of what it means to be a chemical engineer and (2) providing opportunities for students to become more attractive candidates for grad school and/or the job force.

  14. New for 2014: ChBE Seminar Series • Lectures required for senior design course, but accessible to all years • Led by Professors Lindsay Soh and Alex Woltornist (Merck) • Topics • Toyota Production System Overview • Sustainability • Intro to Life Cycle Analysis • Industrial Ecology

  15. AIChE Brownbag Series • Include topics such as: • Information about grad school • Managing the Career Fair • Getting involved in research at Lafayette • What industries ChE’s can enter • Topics provided from industrial speakers

  16. ChBE Symposium • Scheduled for last Friday in March • On the agenda • 2 keynote speakers (well-established in industry) • Panel speakers (more recent alumni) • Opportunities to interact with guests • Presentation of student work

  17. Other Activities • Plant tours (Air Products, maybe others) • Conferences (AIChE officers and researchers) • Regional (Next spring, Manhattan College) • National (This year, Atlanta)

  18. What AICHE Does AIChE atLafayette Integrating Underclassmen Social Professional Development Outreach AIChE also focuses on (1) being an active member inside and outside of the Lafayette community and (2) developing a camaraderie between students of all years and the faculty.
