  3. 1 Samuel 26:21 Then Saul said, “I have sinned. Return, my son David. For I will harm you no more, because my life was precious in your eyes this day. Indeed I have played the fool and erred exceedingly.”

William Paley, English theologian, 1743-1805 [S]uppose I found a watch upon the ground, and it should be inquired how the watch happened to be in that place, I should hardly think … that, for anything I knew, the watch might have always been there. Yet why should not this answer serve for the watch as well as for [a] stone [that happened to be lying on the ground]?… For this reason, and for no other; namely, that, if the different parts had been differently shaped from what they are, if a different size from what they are, or placed after any other manner, or in any order than that in which they are placed, either no motion at all would have been carried on in the machine, or none which would have answered the use that is now served by it (Paley 1867, 1).

William Paley, English theologian, 1743-1805 Every indicator of contrivance, every manifestation of design, which existed in the watch, exists in the works of nature; with the difference, on the side of nature, of being greater and more, and that in a degree which exceeds all computation. I mean that the contrivances of nature surpass the contrivances of art, in the complexity, subtilty, and curiosity of the mechanism; and still more, if possible, do they go beyond them in number and variety; yet in a multitude of cases, are not less evidently mechanical, not less evidently contrivances, not less evidently accommodated to their end, or suited to their office, than are the most perfect productions of human ingenuity (Paley 1867, 13).

  15. Fools mock at sin. Proverbs 14:9 Fools mock at sin,       But among the upright there is favor. Some say:What’s the big deal? Sin is in your mind.

  17. Fools mock at sin. 1 John 3:4 Whoever commits sin also commits lawlessness, and sin is lawlessness. James 4:17 Therefore, to him who knows to do good and does not do it, to him it is sin. cf. 2 Timothy 3:16-17 All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness, 17 that the man of God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work.

  18. Fools mock at sin. Sin does what it has always done. Isaiah 59:1-2 Behold, the LORD’s hand is not shortened,      That it cannot save;       Nor His ear heavy,       That it cannot hear.        2 But your iniquities have separated you from your God;       And your sins have hidden His face from you,       So that He will not hear. Romans 6:23 James 1:14-15 Hebrews 2:1-4
