How did the documentary SuperSize Me affect Nogales High School students? • The pupose of our project was to show how the documentary affected Nogales students.
Background Information • The documentary was done to test the affects of comsuming fast food, in this case Mcdonalds, on a daily bases. • The idea for the documenatary was created by Morgan Spurlock.
The results of Morgan’s experiment • The end results of the experiment were that eating nothing but McDonalds for thirty day’s pickled Morgan’s liver, which is very harmful to the human body.
Why do we care about the effect of the documenatary? • Because the documentary had an effect on business and many Americans, we wanted to test the effect of the documentary on Nogales students.
Prepartion of our project • In order to obtain our data we created a questionnaire witch asked the students to tell us how many times a week they consumed fast food before watching the documentary and how many times they consumed fast food after watching the documentary
Our Population • We took a sample of Nogales High School’s population by using Mr. Cox AP Statistics classes as well as his Algebra 2 classes. • Are sample size was 123.
Method of project • The reason we created the questionnaires was to get data to conduct a matched pairs t- Test to show that there is a difference in the amount of fast food consumed before and after watching the documentary.
Hypothesis of Test • Ho: d= 0 • Ha: d not = 0 • Null: There is no differnce • Alternative : There is a differnce
Results • We took the mean difference of the results before and after.
Before The mean for the results before is 3.184211 After The mean for the results after is 1.552632 Mean Differnce for:
Results of Matched Pairs t-test • The number of observations is 39 • The degrees of freedom is 38 • The t-stat is 14.09406 • The P- Value is 9.42E-17
Conclusion • Because the p-value is so low we can reject the null at the .05 alpha level. • We can conclude that the effect of the documentary did change the amount of fast food Nogales high school student’s consume after watching “Super Size Me.”
Critique of our Project • Have a bigger sample size.
Something we learned • We learned that after watching a documentary about the dangers of fast food, fewer students ate fast food.
