  1. How NMLs manage knowledge outside and inside schools Giovanni Biondi, Florence 6th march 2007

  2. Is there sustained evidenceregarding the effects of technology on educational achievement ? Italy is still without a national evaluation system using standardised tests. ICT have been introduced in curricula as a subject but not as a tool. ICT as tools are too recently introduced in the school curriculum to value the impact of it on educational achievements.

  3. Pupils outside schools

  4. NMLs outside and inside schools NML outside school multi-tasking multi-space multi-time Non linear They create and manage things (images, words, audios, videos, ect..) They are personally involved NML inside school mono-tasking one-space-per time Linear They are “questioned and answered” They are passive

  5. NMLs outside schools NML are main actors They look for what they need, grasping information surfing on the net But, are they really a “paste and copy” generation?

  6. The use outside and inside schools School activities are proposed in a Linear/Traditional way Using digital devices, though. The learning path is content-centred and not learner-centred ICT are normally used outside school

  7. Flexible ways of learning, are possible? The traditional e-learning models did not find any success in school…. E-learning proposes linear learning path!

  8. Flexible ways of learning, are possible? e-learning original feature is that it works on: • Time • Space Traditional e-learning methodology uses both these dimensions: delocalization and non linear time of training.

  9. Flexible ways of learning, are possible? NML have to be main actors in the personal knowledge building. Flexibility is garanted by a learning enviroment but not through a virtual teaching platforms.

  10. Flexible ways of learning, are possible? Re-think paradigm and culture • from LO to asset • from online platforms to learning enviroments

  11. New dimension of learning enviroment The concept of enviroment has to be defined • The introduction of ICT in schools is an old problem • The division between inside and outside schools is an old prospective
