  3. Make a model of Earth Using paper, make a pie-shaped piece to resemble the Earth. On the front, label the following: Inner core Outer core Mantle Lithosphere (includes Crust)

  4. Open up your segment of the Earth and… • Label the state of matter of each layer. • What elements make each layer? • Inside the foldable, show where the asthenosphere is. • Others on board. Page 326 -329.

  10. Where is there liquid nickel and iron? As the liquid iron and nickel in the outer core circulate, it creates a magnetic field.

  11. Why do you think the inner core is solid and the outer core is liquid? The core of our Earth is tremendously hot. It is believed to have a temperature of 7,000 degrees Celsius. Pressure keeps the inner core a solid, but allows the outer core to be a melted, liquid state.

  14. The mantle is a layer that is kind of like tar on a hot day. It flows, but very, very slowly. .

  15. Asthenosphere (upper layer of the mantle) Plastic (flows, like Peanut butter) Magma Convection currents here!

  16. The asthenosphere is just below the lithosphere. It is part of the mantle. The asthenosphere is rock that flows slowly, like hot asphalt or peanut butter.

  17. The lithosphere includes the crust of the Earth and the upper mantle. . It is solid. Crust: Oxygen and Silicon
