We need them to demonstrate and validate the quality of the work we have done, but from a spiritual perspective the business of measuring human beings is fraught with contradictions. Exams may bring anxiety, but they also raise questions: "what am I worth", "what is the source of my worth?", "how do I give worth to others?", "can one human being ever be measured as having more worth than another?" A powerful insight of Christian faith - and many other world faiths - is that we are valued and loved by God simply as human beings, and not because of anything we have achieved.
