  2. The Spring and Fall Household Hazardous Waste Collection Programs are FREE to ALL Berks County Residents ( identification is required)

  3. April 4, 2009 • Household Hazardous Waste Collection Exeter Township Municipal Building 957 Household Participated in the 6 hour Event • 8:00 AM – 2:00 PM • Rain or Shine

  4. What is Household Hazardous Waste • Any household product which is labeled: Caution, Flammable, Toxic, Corrosive, Poison, Danger, Explosive, Warning or Volatile

  5. Why are these materials collected • To provide Berks County residents with a responsible way to dispose of unwanted hazardous products. • Putting them in the trash or down the drain contributes to the pollution of our air and drinking water

  6. How should I bring materials to the collection site: • Do not mix the materials • Tighten lids on all containers • Bring all materials in original containers if possible

  7. The Collection site is set up by the Contractor.

Oil Paint & Stains Paint Thinners & Solvents Weed Killers Pesticides Asphalt Driveway Sealants Herbicides & Fungicides Anti Freeze Gasoline Transmission & Motor Oil Solvents Disinfectants Rug, Oven & Drain Cleaners NiCad & Lithium Batteries Photographic Chemicals Liquid & Solid Poisons Acids Caustics Aerosols The following materials were collected at the spring 2009 event.

  9. The following materials are not accepted • Latex Paint • Joint & Caulking Compound • Organic Peroxides • Water based sealants • Car Batteries • Gas Cylinders • Explosives & Ammunition • Radioactive, infectious or Medical Waste

  10. Latex Paint is NOT Hazardous and is NOT collected at our events. Latex paint should be hardened and placed out with your regular trash with the lid removed. Information on the proper disposal options was distributed at the collection event.

Centre Rd., Birdsboro

  13. The following items are not hazardous and should be disposed of with your regular trash Joint & Caulking Compound Organic Peroxide Water Based Sealants • Please make sure the materials are not in a liquid form when disposing of them.

  14. ONLY Oil Based Paint Products are accepted at our events.

  15. The contractor evaluates the materials for proper disposal.

  16. All materials are evaluated by our experts prior to packaging.

  17. Workers consolidate the materials for appropriate disposal.

  18. When completing a project, try to use all of the material to eliminate the need for disposal.

  19. Cardboard is sent to a local recycling center

  20. Residents are asked to stay in their vehicles so our contractor can safely remove materials for collection.

  21. 957 residents participated in our spring Collection event dropping off 67,442 pounds of material.

  24. 33.72 Tons of Hazardous Waste was collected during our 6 hour event.
