What is it used for? • As a modality used in the treatment of various injuries and diseases • Alternative “Liposculpture” • TecnoLaser Cryosound (Medisport-slovenija, 2006)
Cryoultrasound: Indications • Muscular • Contusions • 1st & 2nd degree injuries • Ossifying myosytis • Tendinous • Peritendinitis • Tendinosis • Tenosynovitis (De Quervain disease) • Insertional tendonopathy (epicondilytis, ischial-cruralis syndrome, rectus adductor syndrome) • Fascia (plantar fasciitis) • Bursitis (baker’s cysts, sub-acromial bursitis) • Ligamentous (sprains with capsular-ligamentous injuries) • Neural (Morton’s Metetarsalgia, carpal tunnel, anterior and posterior tarsal tunnel, dupuytren’s disease, Guyon’s Tunnel syndrome) • Articulatory (gonarthrosis, lumbalarthrosis, coxarthrosis, rizoarthrosis) (Medisport-slovenija, 2006)
Cryoultrasound Effects • Three types of effects of Cryoultrasound: • Mechanical • Thermal • Biological
Thermal Effects • Superficial or “dermal” effect • Redding is visible after the “cold-ultrasound” treatment • Because the skin and muscles usually have a common artery, the increase in dermal circulation from the “cold-ultrasound” causes a circulatory decrease in the muscles. • Can be used immediately after trauma: • The tip placed on the injury causes an immediate vasoconstriction, followed by superficial vasodialation and deep musculature vasoconstriction (Medisport-slovenija, 2006)
Mechanical Effects • The cells of the muscle and connective tissue are stressed by mechanical means • produce more collagen and proteoglycans Biological Effects • The different temperatures of the skin and muscles create a better circulatory effect and an increase in metabolism. (Medisport-slovenija, 2006)
Cryoultrasound features • Input: 220 volts – 50 Hz • Power: 650 Watts • Maximum power of Ultrasound: 3 watts/cm2 • Ultrasound frequency: 1 MHz +/- 5% • Output: continuous or impulse (50 Hz or 100 Hz) • Time: 0-30 minutes • Transducer head: pizoelectric ceramic • Cryotherapy: regulated to -5 degrees Celsius (Medisport-slovenija, 2006)
