Japan and Its Need • Japan is the strategic gateway to Asia • 85% of the world’s unbelievers live in Asia • Considered the “model Asian economy” • <1% of Japanese people know Christ • Unprecedented social upheaval in Japan • Suicide rate at an all-time high • Economic difficulties since early 90’s • Troubled youth culture; increasing crime rate • Growth of materialism and religious cults • “A superpower without a moral compass” USING A PROVEN MODEL TO PLANT A CHURCH

LIFE’s Response to the Needs • Leadership Development • Trained over 200 Japanese pastors whose churches account for 90% of Japan’s church growth • From 12 pastors trained nationally to 50-100 trained regionally each year • Now completely indigenous (every staff member is Japanese) • Evangelism • Sent over 2,500 missionaries to 600 churches • Music ministry to help churches develop worship • Friendship Golf to reach businessmen LIFE Ministries is a strategic outreach with a far-reaching vision for the future. The New Opportunity The New Opportunity • 1996~99:Yamagata Church Multiplication Project I • Partnership with 5 visionary pastors • Rural, more traditional & resistant part of Japan • Network of pastors and church multiplication missionaries • All five churches reproduced (within 30 months) • 1999~2002Yamagata CM Project II • 5 newly-planted churches began plansto reproduce again and are doing so • Each of the mother churches are alsoinvolved in multiplying USING A PROVEN MODEL TO PLANT A CHURCH
