  3. History • Pixar was created from John Lesseter and Lucasfilms • The name Pixar was created by Steve Jobs in 1986, which is after the Pixar Image Computer • Computer Animated Production System helped Pixar and Disney with their commercials and films

  4. In 1984, John Lasseter leaves Disney and joins George Lucas and his animation team The computer graphics division was sold to Steve Jobs for $10 million in 1986 A short film called Red’s Dream has its premiere in 1987 Red’s Dream receives the Golden Gate award In 1988 another short film is premiered and is called Tin Toy Pixar makes their first commercial for Tropicana, “Wake Up”, in 1989 Tin Toys wins an Academy Award for Best Animated Short Film 1984-1989

  5. 1990-1994 • Pixar creates five new commercials in 1990 • Walt Disney Pictures and Pixar team up to create three feature length animated films • Pixar receives awards for the Listerine and Lifesaver commercials

  6. 1995-1999 • Toy Story hits theaters in 1995 and becomes the first fully computer animated film • Buzz and Woody from Toy Story make an appearance at the 68th Academy Awards • Pixar and Disney expand their agreement to make five films • A Bug’s Life is released and breaks all U.S. Thanksgiving weekend records in the Box Office • In 1999, Toy Story 2 is released and Pixar continues to break records

  7. 2000-2003 • Co-Founder, Ed Catmull, is named Pixar’s President • Monster’s Inc. is releases in 2001 and becomes the highest gross animated movie worldwide • Finding Nemo is released and Toy Story is voted #1 on the Top 100 Animated Features of All Time by the Online Film Critics

  8. Coming in ’04 and ‘05 • In 2004 a new animated film is scheduled to release and is called The Incredibles • The Incredibles is an action adventure-comedy with Brad Bird • In 2005, Cars is to be releases with Jon Lasseter directing the animated film

  9. Pixar • Pixar has founded Pixar University, where they provide educational opportunities for Pixar employees • Pixar and Disney co-own and produce the 5 animated films, and share the profit • All the computer animated movies have received over $2.0 billion dollars

  10. Awards • Since 1986, Pixar has won 8 Academy Awards and have been nominated 10 times • Pixar has won Grammy Awards for Best Song, Album, and composition • All of Pixar’s short films have received various awards
