The Art of Annotation Annotation is the ability to draw out key points of a text for future reference. We only retain 10% percent of what we read.
The Art of Annotation • Bracket important passages/parts • Connect related ideas with lines • Outline the main events in the margins • Circle words to define or tone word Use different symbols for the different parts of annotation. You will have to make a key to differentiate between the symbols.
The Art of Annotation OR • Write brief comments and question in the margins • Place an asterisk beside something unusual • Pick a way of annotating to be consistent • Use post it notes to label important events
