  8. Recreation & Health Campaign Develop state-wide campaign to promote existing park and recreation facilities as places for physical activity for local implementation. Pilot Communities: Franklin and Allegheny Counties (Summer 2004)

  11. Training Local ACE Advocates Develop training series and program materials for local advocates to promote and support Active Community Environments.

Local ACE Advocate Training • Improve the knowledge and skills of local advocates about the impact of the built environment on community health and quality of life. • Increase Community awareness about the impact of the environment on community health and quality of life. • Assess local environment and policies that support walking and biking as modes of transportation

  14. Local Government Training Develop education and outreach sessions for local government officials (and related professionals) on the impact of land-use and transportation on public health.

  15. “Products” • A 3 hour interactive training program delivered through Pennsylvania State Association of Township Supervisors (PSATS) • A 1 hour education session that can be delivered at professional conferences and meetings

  16. Milestones • April 19, 2004: PSATS conference • (1 hour session) • May/June 2004: • 3 hour training course

Health Care • Inform healthcare providers about the Growth Screening Program in PA schools (starting 04-05 school year). • Provide a training course for school personnel, community organizations, and healthcare systems and providers to prepare for the implementation of the Growth Screening Program.

  18. Preparing Schools and Communities to Respond for The Pennsylvania Growth Screening Programhosted by PANA, PA Department of Health, and Local Intermediate Units

  19. Training Course Details Targeted Audiences • The training program will be targeted to school nurses, community health professionals and health care systems. Measurable Outcomes • Increase awareness about the Pennsylvania Growth Screening Program among school nurses, community health professionals, and health care systems. • Increase the number of school and community professionals working in partnership to prepare for the Growth Screening Program

Training Course Components • Explain the Growth Screening Program • Present alternatives for school and community partnerships to prepare for the Growth Screening Program • Provide information on resources, promising programs and Continuing Medical Education courses available • Facilitate local dialogue to include: what is needed by school nurses, what is available in the community and/or health system, and partnerships that can be developed in local communities
