Year 1 Unit: Why is the church an important place for Christians? • *Photos taken from a powerpoint a visitor used when visiting a class. • Images include – a traditional wedding in a church and a community coming together to worship when there is no local church e.g. using a school building and a baptism in a garden.

  7. Year 4 unit: -What is the Bible? -How do Christians use the Bible? -What is my view of the Bible? *Images of children exploring and reading Bibles with the help from a Christian visitor.

  8. Assemblies/ Collective Worship Values we focus on: enquiry, resilience, morality, communication, thoughtfulness, cooperation, respect and adaptability

  9. Christian Festival Workshops: *Images of children taking part in the last supper. Children using instruments to celebrate. Easter cracked open: Pass the parcel – revealing Easter symbols. Palm Sunday celebration, waving streamers. Taking part in the last super under a gazebo – telling the story. Writing a prayer at the end of session onto heart shape post it notes. Sticking these on a board to take back to school.

  10. Christian Festival Workshops: Christmas Unwrapped: Matching Christmas cards. Sorting Christmas cards. Visiting different stations to understand the Christmas story e.g. Drawing a simple map of Mary and Joseph’s journey onto special paper. Code breaking to reveal the message from Gabriel to Mary. Making a gift box to represent gifts brought to Jesus and decorating it with special stickers. Creating a happy and angry stick puppet.

How do staff benefit? • They can learn about Christian values and practices to enhance their future teaching. • They benefit from seeing specialist practitioners deliver lessons that inspireand engage. • They have the chance to take part in discussions and activities with their children while the lead facilitator takes responsibility for the main learning outcomes. • They can build relationships with members of the local community.

  13. How do children benefit? • Learning is brought to life. Children get to experience learning in real life contexts. • Children have the opportunity to ask questions and explore ideas that perhaps their teacher wouldn’t feel confident discussing or have the time to dedicate learning to. • Children get to learn outside the classroom! • Children benefit from learning from an adult with a different personality/ teaching style. • They can build relationships with members of the local community.
