Diocese of Marsabit 2009 – 2014 Our Journey Towards the Diocesan GOLDEN JUBILEE A Search for Self-Reliance and Social Relevance
In 2014 we shall celebrate 50 years of the presence of the Catholic faith in this region. The question is what shall we celebrate? History is important but the celebration of a living Faith has to have the upper hand in our celebration of the Jubilee in 2014 Is it the chronological existence of our Diocese for the last 50 years or something much deeper than that?
Jubilee Lev 25:8-55 Lk 4:14-30 What does it mean to celebrate a A Golden Jubilee? What does the Bible tell us about the JUBILEE?
The spiritual renewal meant the renewal of the Sinaitic covenant with God: “I will be your God and you will be my People” A Religious Jubilee is a Moment of Renewal Spiritual Renewal Vertical renewal What does spiritual renewal mean for us in the Diocese and as individual Christians? Renewal What does this expect of us as individuals and as a Christian community? Which are our social problems and how can go about them? Horizontal renewal Social Renewal This meant the renewal of the human relationships, being attentive to the other person and to nature. True spiritual renewal has to have positive repercussions in the social life and in our use of the God given resources!

In this journey, the frequent use of the SWOT methodology of analysis could be quite helpful. This means discovering the STRENGTH and WEAKNESSES of our Church. It is becoming aware of the positive forces and resources that are at our disposal. But at the same time acknowledging with humility our weaknesses as a pilgrim Church. Then we have to look outside the Church for the OPPORTUNITIES that the society offers for a positive way forward. This involves the tapping of the resources in the society.Without of course forgetting that the same society and environment poses some THREATS that can be real obstacles in our journey of faith.
