  2. Automating Flats Preparation • New technology could bypass bundle distribution (APPS/SPBS) and reduce manual induction processes on the FSS and AFSM 100 • Need optimal bundle and container preparation to match new processing capabilities • Transition from current to future state

  3. Automating Flats Preparation Bypass bundle sorting on APPS or SPBS and go directly to piece distribution

  4. Four Fold Increase Auto prepping for both FSS and AFSM 100 processing AUTOMATED 4,400 pcs/hr MECHANIZED BFP 1125 sq ft 3,000 pcs/hr SAMP: 1410 sq ft MANUAL

  5. Prototype Technology Bundle Buffer/Sort De-palletized bundles Cut Straps and Load ACTs Stack ACTs Make Dollies

  6. New Solutions • USPS/IDEAlliance “Think Tank” session • Brainstorming solutions for mail preparation in the future state • More outreach needed to determine industry current state and ability/need to change production methods

  7. Next Steps • Proof of concept for automated prepping system • Additional data modeling for Standard Mail and Periodicals mailings • Additional industry studies • Identify incremental transition opportunities
