Football Analysis Weeds and Roses
Our three weeds from last analysis (Legalization) • Move chronologically through the passage! • Roses all around! You did this well! Thank you! • Be thorough with your analysis. You cannot just pick & choose a couple of things. • Better! I saw more effort to be thorough. Warning: there is such thing as overkill! Too much is not necessarily better!

Weeds from FB analysis and things to focus on for our next piece:
Weed #1--Be specific with purpose • To answer the prompt you must directly and accurately address PURPOSE. • Do this in your very first line! • If you GET purpose, this will set you up for success because all your commentary should point back to purpose. • Purpose is not tone and tone is not purpose.
Example: The author’s purpose is to express anger. • Is this purpose or tone? • Change to: The author’s purpose is to blame the coaches for Jim Bresnicks’ death. He does this through his accusatory and angry tone such as…
PURPOSE 1st then tone (used to support purpose) ** Use the brainstorm we did on purpose and the verb sheet to help you nail purpose!
Weed #2--Analyze correctly! • There is a right and a wrong answer • How to find the right answer: • Read the passage more than once. Take your time! This is not designed to be quick and simple. • Take all writer’s choices into account • Question yourself • Find patterns and commonalities
