  1. Welcome to Barker Road Middle School, Purple Team! Mrs. Roser English –3rd & 4th periods

  2. Who is Mrs. Roser? • This is my 20thyear teaching. • I taught 2nd and 3rd grades for 15 years. • I graduated from St. John Fisher College with a BS in Biology and minors in Chemistry and Education. • After spending 10 years as a mortgage underwriter, I went to Nazareth College for my Masters in Reading and Elementary Education.

  3. I have two sons. Brian graduated from SUNY Oneonta and is a 7th grade social studies teacher in Morris, NY. Jason is a juniorat SUNY Oneonta studying to be an elementary teacher (both graduated from Sutherland). My dog Manny is 12 years old and we spend a lot of time at our family camp in the Adirondacks. My husband, Michael, is a Career Firefighter/EMT for the Henrietta Fire District.

  5. reading and Writing • 2 shared reading units with book clubs • 1 research unit • Types of Writing throughout the year, often kept in their journal or writing folder: • Freewrite • Expository • Argumentative (Opinion) • Narrative • End of unit writing summative / assessments

  6. Standards Based grading • Reading • Writing • Speaking and Listening • Language • Summatives • Parent Portal - helpful to check grades and comments - takes time to get grades in English (we do a lot of practice first)

  7. Independent Reading • Non-fiction Reading - NewsELA 1st and 2ndmarking periods • Students are also required to read 1 book independently this year during the 4th marking period. (We will have class time to do this).
