Research theme: Competition and regulation in health care • Defining the conditions for effective competition in the health care markets (e.g. balance of powers of stakeholders) and devising regulatory policies to promote them; • Determining the most efficient way of contracting in the different submarkets; • Determining the institutional arrangements required for regulation of the various submarkets; • Measuring the performance in the various markets in terms of efficiency and equity.
Research theme: Quality and efficiency in health care • Health care technologies (curative interventions, medicines, preventive/public health programs, diagnostic strategies) constituting the basic health care package, the criteria that should be applied in delineating the package and the operationalisation of these criteria; • Relevant performance indicators which are reliable, readily accessible to actors in the market and instrumental in care purchasing.
Research theme: Management and organisation of health care delivery • Concepts and instruments from business economics and organisation as developed in commercial sectors will be adjusted for successful implementation within health care organisations.
