When is an Element Achieved? • To achieve an element you must be able to demonstrate: • A WrittenStandard for the Element • The Means by Which the Element Was Communicated • That you Have Provided the NecessaryTraining • Evaluate or Have a Plan to Evaluate • Make Changes and Acknowledge Success
What Would be an Acceptable Evaluation? Is the element actually implemented and working? • Small sample survey of employees • Statistical review i.e. WSIB information • Review by JOHSC • Management review • Review of inspection reports & JOHSC minutes • Physical observation/inspection
How Can We Acknowledge Success? Recognize everyone who contributed to successful prevention activities by meeting & surpassing company standards, for example: • letter/memo from the president • health & safety awards • public recognition i.e. coffee & donuts for JOHSC and/or employees • staff meeting, Christmas banquet, etc.
How are Elements Maintained? 1. Annual review of standards. Best practice - circulate policies & procedures for comment 2. Revisit communication 3. Train new, transferred or returning staff as required 4. Annual evaluation of elements - is it still working, are changes needed Documentation!!
How is the Maintenance Elements Scored? • Year 1 • Firm Calculation: • 5 completed elements x 20% =100% • Subsequent Years • Firm Calculation: • Maintenance of elements 25% • 5 New completed elements x 15% +75% • % Firm score =100%
