  4. In a conversation with a co-worker, this person makes the comment that he or she does not go to church because it is full of hypocrites and all they do is ask for money. You politely disagree. This person responds by saying, “Okay, what do you think the Church is?” What would you say? A new Christian asks you if it is necessary to be baptized in order to make it to heaven. How would you respond? You invite a relative to church who has never attended. That morning, you take Communion. After the service, your relative asks you about that part of the service. How would you explain this to him or her? www. .com

  5. Article 11: The Church We believe in the Church, the community that confesses Jesus Christ as Lord, the covenant people of God made new in Christ, the Body of Christ called together by the Holy Spirit through the Word. God calls the Church to express its life in the unity and fellowship of the Spirit; in worship through the preaching of the Word, observance of the sacraments, and ministry in His name; by obedience to Christ and mutual accountability. The mission of the Church in the world is to continue the redemptive work of Christ in the power of the Spirit through holy living, evangelism, discipleship, and service. The Church is a historical reality, which organizes itself in culturally conditioned forms; exists both as local congregations and as a universal body; sets apart persons called of God for specific ministries. God calls the Church to live under His rule in anticipation of the consummation at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ. www. .com

  6. Acts 2:32-47 What is the Church? How does the Church express itself? What is the mission of the Church? What were the characteristics of the Early Church? Are these characteristics still a part of the Church today? www. .com

  7. Article 12: Baptism We believe that Christian baptism, commanded by our Lord, is a sacrament signifying acceptance of the benefits of the atonement of Jesus Christ, to be administered to believers and declarative of their faith in Jesus Christ as their Savior, and full purpose of obedience in holiness and righteousness. Baptism being a symbol of the new covenant, young children may be baptized, upon request of parents or guardians who shall give assurance for them of necessary Christian training. Baptism may be administered by sprinkling, pouring, or immersion, according to the choice of the applicant. www. .com

  8. 1 Peter 3:18-22 What is baptism? What does baptism symbolize? Is there one right way to receive baptism? According to Peter, what is the purpose of baptism? Why do you think God chose water as a part of baptism? www. .com

  9. Article 13: The Lord’s Supper We believe that the Memorial and Communion Supper instituted by our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ is essentially a New Testament sacrament, declarative of His sacrificial death, through the merits of which believers have life and salvation and promise of all spiritual blessings in Christ. It is distinctively for those who are prepared for reverent appreciation of its significance, and by it they show forth the Lord’s death till He come again. It being the Communion feast, only those who have faith in Christ and love for the saints should be called to participate therein. www. .com

  10. 1 Corinthians 11:23-32 Why do we celebrate Communion? Who should participate in Communion? What does the bread represent? What does the wine represent? How often should we celebrate Communion? www. .com

  11. Baptism and the Lord’s Supper are called sacraments. A sacrament is “a special act Christians do as a sign of grace. Sacraments are outward signs of an inward grace given by Christ to Christians.”*We practice these sacraments as a testimony of our faith and relationship with God. * J. Wesley Eby, George Lyons, and Al Truesdale, A Dictionary of the Bible & Christian Doctrine in Everyday English,.(Kansas City: Beacon Hill Press of Kansas City, 2004), 259. www. .com

  12. Why does the Church exist? Why are Baptism and the Lord’s Supper important practices within the Church? www. .com
